I’ve built several generators over the last few years. Here are just a few things that I’ve done to make my magnetic generators virtually silent.
- Use noise dampening foam on the support mounts. I’ve found this reduces any vibrations and reduces noise.
- Build a sound proof housing. This can be as simple as a plywood box lined with noise dampening foam. I actually did a budget build once and use egg boxes on the inside of the plywood. It turned out pretty good!
- Spend more time balancing the wheel. I found this to be really important. Take my advice and spend more time here because if it’s aligned properly, it greatly reduces the sound output.
- Get some decent grease on the axels. This not only reduces noise but can also increase the power output of your magnetic generator.
